I’d test one thing first before picking any app. Your Toshiba needs to be a smart TV on the same Wi-Fi as your iPhone. If it’s an older Toshiba with no smart platform, most iPhone apps won’t help at all, because iPhones don’t have IR blasters. That’s the part a lot of apps quietly avoid saying.
If your TV is a Toshiba Fire TV, Android TV, or Google TV, TVRem is a solid first try. @mikeappsreviewer covered it well, and I agree on the easy pairing part. Where I differ a bit is this: I wouldn’t judge by app shortcuts or voice search first. I’d judge by 2 things.
- Volume works without delay.
- The app stays paired for a full day.
A lot of “free” remote apps pass the first 2 mins, then fail later.
My short list:
- TVRem, best first pick for newer Toshiba smart TVs.
- Official Fire TV app, if your Toshiba runs Fire TV. Less flashy, more stable.
