Need help with my iPhone 17

I recently got an iPhone 17, but I’m already running into problems and can’t figure out what’s wrong. Something isn’t working the way it should, and I need help troubleshooting it so I can use my phone normally again. Looking for advice on common iPhone 17 issues and fixes.

Need a bit more detail. “Something isn’t working” is too broad.

Post these:

  1. iPhone 17 model, regular, Air, Pro, Pro Max.
  2. iOS version, Settings > General > About.
  3. What fails, charging, battery drain, Wi-Fi, cellular, Face ID, camera, apps, heat, sound, touchscreen.
  4. When it started, right out of the box or after an update.
  5. Any error message.

Try the fast checks first:

  1. Force restart. Press volume up, volume down, then hold side button till Apple logo.
  2. Update iOS. Settings > General > Software Update.
  3. Check storage. If you have under 5 GB free, stuff starts acting weird.
  4. Reset network settings if it’s Wi-Fi or cell. Settings > General > Transfer or Reset > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
  5. Test charging with a diff cable and brick.
  6. Turn off VPN if you use one.
  7. If one app is broken, delete it and reinstall it.
  8. Check battery health in Settings > Battery. If it dropped hard on a new phone, taht’s not normal.

If the phone gets hot, freezes, or reboots on its own, contact Apple Support or swap it if you’re still in the return window. New phone problems are often software, but DOA units do happen.

“Something’s wrong” on a brand new phone can mean basically anything, so @jeff is right that you need to narrow it down. But I wouldn’t jump straight to resetting stuff unless you know which system is actually failing, because resets just make a mess if the issue is hardware.

A few things I’d check that weren’t mentioned:

  • Look in Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements > Analytics Data. If you see lots of panic-full or reset counter logs, that points to crashes, not user error.
  • If battery/heat is the complaint, check whether it’s still indexing photos, restoring iCloud, or downloading apps. New iPhones can act kinda dumb for 24 to 48 hours.
  • If touch is weird, remove the screen protector for a bit. Some cheap ones cause ghost taps.
  • If cellular is bad, try turning off 5G Auto and set LTE only as a test.
  • If apps keep freezing, see whether Low Power Mode or Background App Refresh settings are causing it.

Also, if this started right out of the box, I’d honestly lean toward exchange over endless troubleshooting. A new phone should just work. If you post the exact symptom, ppl can be way more spesific.
